Why Vicinity
A page that reads well is a page that was designed well.
Editorial design is the invisible architecture of every publication. When it works, the reader moves through the content without friction — absorbing information, following the narrative, noticing the photographs, and arriving at the end with a clear sense of what the organisation stands for. When it fails, even the strongest content gets lost. Readers disengage, hierarchy disappears, and the publication becomes a document rather than a communication.
At Vicinity Design, we treat editorial design as a structural discipline first. Before we touch colour or typography, we understand the content — what it is trying to say, who it is trying to say it to, and what the reader needs to feel when they put the publication down. Every grid decision, every typographic choice, every image crop follows from that understanding.
Our editorial design work spans some of the most demanding institutional contexts in Singapore — exhibition catalogues for National Gallery Singapore, yearbook publications for Beatty Secondary School, festive print collateral for Defence Collective Singapore, and annual reports and institutional publications for healthcare and public sector organisations. In each case, the brief was not simply to make something look good. It was to make something that worked — for the reader, for the institution, and for the archive.
We bring a rigorous, editorial-first approach to every publication project. That means a proper flatplan before any layout begins. It means a design system — not a collection of one-off pages. It means proofing rounds with tracked changes, accuracy reviews on all names and figures, and a pre-press check before any file leaves the studio. It means a publication you can be proud to put in front of your board, your donors, your students, or your visitors.
Whether you need a 120-page exhibition catalogue, a 60-page annual report, a 32-page school yearbook, or a 12-page programme book for your next institutional event — we have designed all of these, and we know what each format requires to succeed.

Our Process
From flatplan to press-ready handover.
Six stages, one point of contact, and no page left to chance. Every milestone is agreed at kickoff and tracked through to delivery.
01
Brief & Content Audit
We begin with a structured briefing session to understand your audience, publication format, page count, timeline, and print specification. We then conduct a content audit — reviewing all incoming copy, photography, data, and existing brand assets — and produce a detailed flatplan that maps every page before layout begins.
02
Creative Concept
We develop 2–3 distinct creative directions — each presenting a different visual approach, typographic treatment, colour strategy, and grid system. For exhibition catalogues we also explore cover treatments and image-led layouts. You select a direction and we refine it into a locked design system for the full publication.
03
Grid & Typography System
Before we touch a single page of body copy, we build and approve the underlying design system — the grid, the typographic hierarchy (headings, body, captions, pull quotes, footnotes), the colour palette, and the recurring layout modules. This system is the foundation that makes the full publication feel coherent, not assembled page by page.
04
Layout & Infographic Design
With the system approved, we build out every page — integrating copy, photography, and data. Infographics and data visualisation panels are developed in close collaboration with your content team, with every figure verified against source data before it enters the layout. Photography is selected and cropped to maximise visual impact within the grid.
05
Proof Cycles & Accuracy Review
We deliver staged proofs — typically two to three structured rounds of feedback. All revisions are tracked in a shared document. Before we move to pre-press, we run a dedicated accuracy review — cross-checking all names, titles, figures, and quotes against your source content to ensure nothing has drifted through the revision process.
06
Pre-press, Delivery & Handover
Final files pass a thorough pre-press check — colour profiles, bleed, font embedding, image resolution, and print marks verified against your print specification. We deliver print-ready PDF, screen-optimised PDF, and source files in a structured handover package. For clients requiring print management, we coordinate with suppliers through to final delivery.
Featured Work
Editorial work built to last.

School Publication · Beatty Secondary School
Beatty Secondary School — DREAMS Publication
A yearbook-style editorial publication capturing the diverse aspirations of Beatty Secondary students. Exhibition Catalogue · National Gallery Singapore
NGS — Teo Eng Seng: We're Happy. Are You Happy?
Publication design for National Gallery Singapore's Teo Eng Seng retrospective. The artist's 'paperdyesculp' practice demanded a system as unconventional as the work itself — avant-garde layout compositions and expressive typographic treatments fused with structured grid principles to honour both the art and the institution.

Print Collateral · Defence Collective Singapore
Defence Collective Singapore — Red Packet 2026
Festive print design for Defence Collective Singapore — blending traditional Lunar New Year motifs with elements of national defence. The brief demanded cultural respect and institutional pride in equal measure, prepared for gold-foil print production with precision colour management.
